“Black Mirror” Creators Are Currently Working On Season 6

After three years since season five was released, Variety revealed that season six of Black Mirror is in the works at Netflix, and this is being worked on by the show’s creator Charlie Brooker. A release date has not been determined for the dystopian series.

Season five premiered back in June 2019. A production source reported that the new season would be even more cinematic, and each episode will be treated as an individual film. This translates to the new season mirroring the last season’s three-episode run that exceeded 60 minutes. Last season included
well-known stars like Anthony Mackie (Striking Vipers) and Miley Cyrus (Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too).
Not all seasons are the same, though. Season 1 contained three episodes, with one exceeding 60 minutes and the other two being under 50 minutes. Season 2 included four episodes, with one exceeding 60 minutes but the remainder being under 50 minutes. Season 3 consists of six episodes, with four episodes being 60 minutes or over and two of them being under 60 minutes. Season 4 also has six episodes, the two of them being over 60 minutes and the rest under 60 minutes.
The news about the upcoming season is a little surprising to many because, during an interview with Radio Times, Brooker admitted to being unsure if Black Mirror would get another season.
“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about society’s falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those,” he said regarding the coronavirus pandemic. “I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”
The new season comes after Brooker and his partner Annabelle Jones left their production company House of Tomorrow, backed by Endemol Shine Group. They created a new production company called Broke and Bones, in which Netflix conjured up a five-year deal with the company that could cost around $100 million.
Despite having a new production company, Bricker and Jones were prevented from creating more seasons for the show because Black Mirror belongs to House of tomorrow’s parent company Endemol Shine Group, later acquired by Banijay Group in Summer 2020.
