“HONORARY STREET NAMING DEDICATION! In honor of the contributions Biz has achieved as an actor, beatboxer, DJ and philanthropist, his hometown of Patchogue Long Island will honor him with the renaming of South Street to Biz Markie Way! Saturday, September 25 at 2 p.m.” the post read.
Biz passed away in July after a long battle with Type 2 Diabetes.
One of Biz’s friends, Cool V, is happy about the honor that he believes is long overdue.
“This is great,” he said. “Biz deserves it. We tried to make it happen while he was here, but the great part is Patchogue made it happen. Nobody Beats The Biz!”
In addition to Biz Markie Way, one of the late rap pioneer’s friends crafted a unique mix dedicated to him.
Cut Chemist of Jurassic 5 released a 70-minute track combining some of Biz’s timeless hits and interviews.
“Biz was a mentor and a friend,” the turntablist said. “He taught me so much as a collector. He also taught me that you could be unlike anyone else and still be accepted.”
The two collaborated on a song in 2018 entitled “Moonlightin’ With Biz.”
Biz is also included in a new documentary called Where We’re From: Rise of L.A. Underground Hip Hop.
The 90-minute film highlights how hip-hop emerged in Los Angeles in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In it, Biz is remembered for his kindness and willingness to help other aspiring artists make it where they desired to be.
The film was released on August 24 on select streaming platforms.
