On Saturday, November 25, Beyoncé dropped her Renaissance tour film. During the world premiere, Beyoncé expressed how proud she was of her 11 year old daughter for improving and fighting for her spot as a dancer on tour.
During one of the highlights of the film, Blue Ivy Carter’s journey on tour with her mother was brought to the forefront. It discussed her performances on the song “My Power” and as a backup dancer for Queen Bey. Beyoncé explained, according to Hollywood Unlocked, that she originally wanted Blue Ivy to do just one tour date with her on her tour, because she was worried about how all the exposure at a young age would be for the young girl. She admitted that she hesitated to put her on stage for more than one night without her having any formal training. Beyoncé would later change her mind after being faces with Blue’s overwhelming resilience and hard work.
However, after one of Blue Ivy’s friends showed her a few negative reviews of her dancing, she was only inspired to work harder. Beyoncé showed through a series of heartwarming clips that Blue grew as a dancer over the course of the tour. The 11 year old was able to negotiate traveling on tour with her mother after all her hard work to overcome what critics called “lackluster dance moves.” After a while, Blue was able to hit every move with precision in rehearsals.
Beyoncé said in the film, “She told me she was ready to perform, and I told her, ‘No.’”
In addition to being a much improved dancer, Blue Ivy also contributed to other aspects of the tour. Beyoncé claimed she offered, “her often unsugarcoated opinion on stage design, song choices and more.”
