‘Dear White People’s’ Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins Recounts Her Wedding, Calling It ‘Anointed’

Dear White People actress Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins sat down and recounted her wedding to Darroll Jenkins and she seems to be just as enamored with the experience as she was four weeks ago. She even used the very strong word, “anointed,” to describe the union that was officiated by her friend.

The Jenkins married in September in Santa Susana, California, reported Essence.

“Our wedding was just a gorgeous, beautiful day,” Featherson-Jenkins said. “It was just a day that you could tell was just absolutely anointed, and it just was our dream come true. It really, really was.”

Featherson-Jenkins and her husband met in 2010. Although they already have over a decade of experience with each other under their respective belts, the actress admitted that dating and marriage are two different states of being that require strategic maneuvering.

“There is a safety and a security, and an excitement about the life that you’re going to build together in a way that’s different, I think than when you’re just engaged or when you’re just boyfriend and girlfriend. There’s definitely been an energy shift, but in the best way possible.”

Another special part of her wedding that few of us who have taken the journey got to experience was her marriage officiated by her friend.

Aisha Hinds, the actress who portrayed Harriet Tubman in Underground, is one of Featherson-Jenkins’ best friends. She opened the ceremony in a way that was so poignant that the bride described the three at the altar as a beautiful “trifecta.”

The couple honeymooned in the Maldives and returned just in time for the premiere of the final season of Dear White People where Featherson-Jenkins portrays Joelle.

Although the role was her first starring one, she is not sad to see that chapter of her life ending when so many new chapters are beginning.

She is looking forward to doing more acting, getting into podcasting, and starting a family with her husband. Although she offered no timeline, she is optimistic that her best days are ahead of her.

“Honestly, I feel like 2022 is going to be one of my best years yet,” she said.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
