NCAAP Award-winning actor, comedian, and game show host Anthony Anderson’s wife Alvina Anderson has filed for divorce from him after their 22-year-long marriage.
According to reports, Alvina filed for dissolution of marriage in a Los Angeles County court on Mar. 25. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their separation.
The filing, which has “TBD” as the date of her and Anthony’s split, indicated that Alvina sought spousal support and asked the Black-ish star to pay her attorney fees. She also requested that property purchased during their marriage be divided evenly between them and treated as “community” property, even though her documents listed several other items as separate property.
“All gifts and inheritance, all assets, earnings, accumulations, and debts acquired by [Alvina] prior to the date of marriage and after the date of separation, the exact nature and extent of which are unknown,” it said.
The news arrived just five years after the couple reconciled in 2017 following Alvina’s first divorce filing in 2015, asking for spousal support and citing irreconcilable differences. She listed Apr. 14, 2014, as her and Anthony’s separation date and told the court that she would share joint legal and physical custody of their son, Nathan. However, she later dismissed the petition.
Alvina and Anthony initially met while attending Howard University. They later wed in 1999 and had two–now-adult–children together: Kyra, 26, and Nathan, 22.
“My sophomore year [1989], her freshman year, I knew a girl who lived in the apartment, so I went to knock on the door to invite her to this party that [me] and my buddies were having,” the 51-year-old actor recalled during an interview on The Tonight Show in 2018.
” My wife answered the door. I was like, ‘I was coming to invite Stacey to this party we’re having.’ Stacey didn’t show up, but my wife did—and we have been together ever since that night. And I was just me: I got there early, she didn’t see anybody else, she was, ‘All right, I’m gonna rock out with this dude!’ We got married on our 10-year anniversary.”
Most recently, Anthony was seen transporting a TV to his new apartment in New York City via Instagram. He reportedly moved to film new episodes of the hit NBC show Law & Order, as he has reprised his role as Detective Kevin Bernard. His role as Andre “Dre” Johnson on Black-ish is reportedly set to end, being that the show will cease production after its eighth season this year.
