Anita Baker Commemorates 64th Birthday With Announcement Of Upcoming Las Vegas Show

Anita Baker celebrated her 64th birthday by announcing that she will be performing in Las Vegas in May.

She shared the exciting news via her Twitter account on Jan. 26 in the wee hours of the morning.

“Las Vegas May 2022. They’ve Invited Us BAAACK!! ABXO,” she wrote.

The Grammy Award-winning singer didn’t provide any more information about the upcoming show thus far.

The news followed the singer’s battle with her former label, Elektra Records, to gain control of her masters. In March 2021, she tweeted that her recording contracts would expire after 30 years. The Detroiter also told

fans not to purchase any of her music.

“I have outlived ALL of my Artist Contracts. They no longer ‘Own’ My Name & Likeness. And, by Law…30-year-old masters are to be returned to Me. Unfortunately, they’re gonna make me Fight four it. I’m Prepared 2 do that. Please Don’t advertise/buy them ABXO,” she wrote.

Thankfully, she won the fight and sent out a celebratory tweet about her victory in September of that year.

“All My Children Are Coming Home. Catalog. Impossible Things Happen…Every. Single. Day. Gratefully,” she wrote. Attached was an image of her five studio albums: The Songstress (1983), The Rapture (1986), Giving You the Best That I Got (1988), Compositions (1990), and Rhythm of Love (1994). The elegant photo featured each album leaning against a fireplace and on top of a white fur rug.

In 2019, Baker played a five-show residency at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas as part of her Farewell Concert Series. The sold-out show ran from May to June and had rave reviews.

According to the Venetian Theater’s official site, her performances were nothing short of amazing.

“Baker’s sonorous voice has lost none of its mesmerizing power or luster, and the petite dynamo can scat and toss out other impromptu riffs like nobody’s business,” Billboard reportedly said.

Last month, the legendary singer took to Twitter to hint that she would be dropping new music.

“re-mix. Re-Master,” she wrote next to a microphone emoji and “music.”
