Police responded to a call about a wrecked Black 2015 Mercedes Benz that had crashed into another parked car. Upon arrival, they found Collier inside, dead from a single gunshot wound to her left abdomen. The 27-year-old mother was killed just a mile away from her home while she was out grocery shopping for her family.
As reported in Baxter’s arrest affidavit, she was involved in several other shootings that took place in the same area on the same day. After being arrested, she admitted to shooting at cars earlier on the 12th because she allegedly believed that she was being followed. Baxter was apprehended after law enforcement was called on her for shooting at multiple cars at an intersection in Orlando. A witness to another violent incident committed by Baxter recalled that after firing two shots into the front of her car, she cursed at her for “following” her. She later identified Baxter as the shooter committing the incidents in a lineup against six other women.
The subsequent search of Baxter revealed a 9mm handgun, a silver .38 Revolver on her person, and several different cell phones.
Collier’s family posted a GoFundMe account to support her two daughters left behind, which has since raised almost $10,000. The description read, “Nekaybaw Iyonna Collier was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend to all who knew her. Tragically on January 12, 2023, she was taken from us as a result of gun violence in Orlando, Florida. Our lives will never be the same since we lost our precious baby girl,”
“Nekaybaw was a beautiful soul who would have given the shirt off of her back to care for the people that she loved. She was kind, caring, smart, talented, and beautiful. We are deeply mourning her loss. We are raising funds to cover the costs of memorial and funeral expenses and to provide care and mental health services for her two beautiful daughters whom she loved and cherished with all of her heart.”
