Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett celebrated her 63rd birthday on Aug. 16, according to Essence. The magazine celebrated the actress with several Essence covers Bassett graced over the years, proving that Black don’t crack.
To say Bassett looks the same age on the last cover as the first would definitely be an understatement. The 9-1-1 actress looks more like she just turned 36 instead of 63.
Bassett began her career after earning her Master of Fine Arts Degree from Yale’s School of Drama, where she met her husband, actor Courtney B. Vance. The couple has a production company together called Bassett Vance Productions.
The actress had small roles on Spencer For Hire and The Cosby Show before being cast in 1993 as Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It. Bassett was nominated for an Oscar for the role and won a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
