Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka Named Co-Chairs of The Met Gala

Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka were named co-chairs of the Met Gala, according to Variety. The women will co-chair the event along with singer Billie Eilish and actor Timothée Chalamet.

Twenty-three-year-old Amanda Gorman is the poet who spoke at President Biden’s inauguration wearing Prada– becoming instantly famous. Gorman was also the first poet on the cover of Vogue.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka is also 23-years-old and has won four Grand Slam titles. Osaka also has a limited-edition handbag collection with Strathberry.

The annual fundraising costume ball in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is also known as the fashion industry’s Academy Awards. The ball is attended by the best-dressed in the fashion industry and other creative artists and celebrities.

Instagram executive Adam Mosseri, fashion designer Tom Ford, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will attend as honorary chairs of the Met Gala.

The Met Ball this year will commemorate the Metropolitan Museum of Art-Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary. Gorman and Osaka will co-chair the Met Gala in September rather than the event’s usual month of May due to COVID-19. The theme of the gala is “American Independence” and will include the annual red carpet event.

Osaka noted the event on Instagram. Her caption read, “Oh, we lit.”

Gorman responded in the comments.

“Right?! Can’t wait to see you, sis, serving on and off the court,” replied Gorman.

Osaka commented, “appreciate you ❤️ can’t wait to see you too ☺️.”

The Met Gala’s first part, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” opens on Sept. 18. The second part, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” will conclude the event on May 5, 2022.
