Although Biracial, Tia Mowry Affirms She Identifies As A Black Woman On ‘The Cool Mom Podcast’

Sister, Sister star Tia Mowry clarified that she identifies as a Black woman despite being biracial on Wednesday’s (Aug. 30) episode of Lizzy Mathis’ The Cool Mom Code Podcast.

Lizzy acknowledged that Tia seemingly identified as a Black woman, which The Game actress confirmed and explained why.

“I identified myself as a Black woman,” Tia confirmed, saying she had a conversation about this topic before arriving to do the podcast. “My mother is Black…my mother is a strong woman. I have seen and felt her struggles as being a Black woman. So, to me, I am an extension of my mother.”

She explained that although her father is white, she identified as a Black woman and has been seen as one for years.

“I remember studying in school the single drop of Black blood…you Black! And so, that’s how I considered myself,” she said.

Tia and her twin sister Tamera Mowry have been a staple in the Black household, mainly due to the comedic sitcom they starred in as children.

And she has been very outspoken about the importance of representation. So, it’s no surprise that the divorced mom of two would be more in tune with her Black roots.

In the interview, Tia expressed her admiration for seeing a representation of women, Black people and motherhood since she initially thought she couldn’t work and be a mother.

Tia and Lizzy agreed that many TV shows and movies paint Black culture negatively by portraying broken Black families, absent fathers and fatherless children, drama, broken marriages, etc.

The Twitches star said it was her mission to portray the side that not many people see, which is the opposite of what TV shows and movies show.

“I feel like, now, my purpose in life is to fight for representation,” Tia said. “Everything that I do now, whether it’s for wellness…I’m all about fighting for representation when it comes to Black women and their health and being taken seriously as an entrepreneur.
