Alfonso Ribeiro Is Done With Fans Asking Him To Do The ‘Carlton Dance,’ ‘It’s Not Gonna Happen’

Alfonso Ribeiro appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, where he discussed a few topics, including his character Carlton Banks in the ’90s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and the beloved dance with the same name.

The topic came up after Kimmel complimented Ribeiro’s name, to which he responded by saying that he liked it “a lot better than Carlton.”

He explained that even though fans can’t get enough of the character’s signature move, “Every day of my life if I go outside,” he has no problem turning down their request to dance for them.

“I’m a Black guy, I’m just not dancing for you. It’s not gonna happen,” the America’s Funniest Home Videos host explained.

After Kimmel promised the 50-year-old he wouldn’t ask him to bust a move, Ribeiro said he doesn’t understand “what’s happening in their head” when fans ask him to dance out of the blue.

“What makes you think that you just gonna ask a random person to dance for you, and they’re gonna be like ‘Oh my God, I’ve been waiting for you to ask! Hold on a second, let me get into character,'” Ribeiro exclaimed. “It’s not — I don’t get it. It’s not gonna happen.”

“What a strange inclination for people to have,” Kimmel agreed.

In November, Ribeiro sat down with Extra’s Rachel Lindsay and shared his thoughts on whether he would read longtime friend and former co-star Will Smith’s memoir released earlier in the month, Sis2Sis reported.

“For many, many, many years, people speculated about them as a family,” Ribeiro

commented. “They are laying it out there in a way that is their truth. I don’t know if I’ll read the book because I know the people.”

In the memoir, Smith revealed surprising yet, intimate details that occurred in his life regarding his past relationships, his children, and his absentee father.
