On December 19, singer Akon sat down for an interview on the Zeze Millz Show to talk about his opinion on men like Nick Cannon having kids with multiple different women. He defined what he thought was a father’s responsibility and the mother’s role. He even shared his opinion that children’s recitals and holidays weren’t necessary for a father to attend
Akon began his argument by saying that polygamy was natural and that Nick Cannon was a perfect example of a proper lifestyle to lead.
“I agree with him 1,000 percent,” said Akon in response to the interviewer’s question about his opinion on Nick Cannon and all his kids. “That’s how life is supposed to be. He’s rich. He’s responsible. He takes care of every one of those children. And the baby mothers are with it, they hurt for nothing, and they live comfortably.”
The interviewer continued to ask about the kids and whether they were happy and given adequate attention.
“What about them? “[Nick Cannon] is there for every one of them. Nick is there for every single one of those kids. I got nine [children], and I’m there for every one of mine.
Zeze Millz asked if Akon was there for all his kids’ ceremonies and events, to which the ‘Bananza’ singer exclaimed that recitals were a “white man’s thing.”
He said, “No, that’s a White man’s thing. Who gives a fuck about a recital? Listen, my job is to raise my kids to be responsible, to be understanding, to protect their mother, to give a hand with their father and to assist with family planning, and to be responsible adults[…]A man has his role. And a woman has her role. But the day the woman believes that the man is supposed to share her role with her, then that means she’s lacking.”
Akon continued articulating, “I don’t go pull my wife out to the construction site to go pull nails and two-by-fours because that’s not her place.”
