Society can add Akon to the list of men who think that rapist and pedophile R. Kelly (who will be referred to as “R.” hereafter) can be redeemed.
Speaking to TMZ (because it’s always TMZ), Akon said R. needs to do some soul-searching and talk to God.
“There is always a way to redeem yourself, but you have to first accept the fact that you’re wrong,” he said.
Akon went on to say that R. has the “right” to redeem himself, and his victims can decide if they want to forgive him.
He also added the helpful tidbit that he feels that not forgiving people puts you in more pain.
And now, the tweets…
Someone remind @Akon that R. Kelly’s chance to redeem himself happened in 2008 after his 2002 trial for his 21 charges of child pornography was acquitted. https://t.co/sGf2VS32aN

Everyone deserves a second chance this I strongly believe in. However R. Kelly is on his 30th chance. Now playing:

Akon says R Kelly should be able with to redeem himself??? Is it crack?????
— david christoff (@d_christophor) October 1, 2021
No, it’s not crack, but it’s an addiction.
AKON … trying to say R.Kelly deserves a second chance… he just gets dumber by the day I guess… R.Kelly is a predator and he needs to be in Prison… or he will do it again
— DDD (@DayDay_OTM) October 1, 2021
he’ll be in prison for his whole life…let’s stop asking random celebrities for their commentary on serious situations 💖

“Random” is subjective in this case, but the rest of that tweet deserves the Nobel Prize for good sense.
Maybe Akon should have given R. Kelly this advice back in the late 90’s.
Or 2002.Or 2004. When he was dodging those criminal indictments.

It’s time for society to stop discussing whether or not a pedophile and rapist with nearly three decades of experience can be redeemed and let him go to jail, then hell, where he belongs.
