Afida Turner Says Tina Suffered From “Gut-Wrenching Grief” In Her Final Years

According to The Daily Mail, Tina Turner’s final years of her life were spent in deep mourning for her son. The exclusive interview conducted on May 27 with Tina’s daughter-in-law Afida revealed that the “Proud Mary” singer suffered from persistent health issues and the emotional distress of outliving many of her children.

Afida, 43, shared with the outlet, “She was ill for a long time, but she was extraordinarily strong too. She has been fighting for her life from 2017 until now. We knew how sick she was, but she was doing so well that this was not expected.”

She continued to reveal that the entire Turner family was still reeling from the loss of Tina’s son Ronnie, who tragically passed away from colon cancer earlier in the year. Particularly, Tina still suffered from “gut-wrenching grief” from losing her son Craig in 2018 to suicide. Afida expressed,  “If you lose a child, or a loved one, you are going to cry every morning and every night.”

Despite all of Tina’s tribulations, Afida told the outlet that TIna was so resilient and intense that the whole family believed she would “live forever.” Thankfully, Tina could stay steady by relying on her Buddhist faith. Afida added that the only consolation to come from the Queen of Rock n’ Roll’s passing was that she could now rest easy with her children.

“They never had time to spend together, and now all three of them are together,” she said.

As reported by Sis2Sis, Tina passed away on Wednesday, May 24. After a long illness, the legendary singer went peacefully to her own home in Küsnacht, Switzerland. A representative wrote,

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
