Viola Davis recently shared intimate details of one of her most pivotal roles from early in her career.
The 57-year-old award-winning actress posted a video of her performance in 2002’s Antwone Fisher – a critically-acclaimed film directed by Denzel Washington. Davis shared that she was only paid a paltry $671 for her portrayal of Eva May in the movie. In the scene, Davis’ character didn’t say much, but her expression was riveting as she interacted with Antwone Fisher – the lead character played by Derek Luke. Although she was paid peanuts for work, the How To Get Away With Murder star called the role a “joy” to play.
“THIS was one day of work. I was paid $671, and…..it was the JOY of my career!!! 🙏🏿❤️ @derekluke #AntwoneFisher #20YearsAgoToday,” she wrote in the caption.

Fans expressed their thoughts on her touching post.
“This was where I first saw you. This was where I first fell in love with your artistry. Thank you for continuing,” performer Darell J. Hunt told the veteran actress about her role as Eva.
Actor Kendrick Sampson wrote, “One day of work but burned in our memories for eternity. So impactful and unforgettable. 🖤🖤🖤”
Ruth E. Carter expressed her appreciation for Davis’ craft, writing, “Oh yeah. A premiere performances. Viola without uttering a single word. He imagined his mother’s love. Sometimes that’s all you got. She couldn’t deny him his truth. Imagined or not. Uh. Viola, [you’re] reminding us how you still make us feel the emotions. Damn girl.”
Clearly, Davis has leveled up. She is now worth an estimated $25 million.
