Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley joined The Cut’s editor-in-chief Lindsay Peoples to discuss her life and career on the In Her Shoes podcast last month and talked about how her sex life’s existence surprised people due to her being a Christian.
Peoples asked Mowry-Housley if there was a particular part of her memoir, You Should Sit Down for This: A Memoir About Life, Wine, and Cookies, that she presumed people would be surprised about or enjoy.
Mowry-Housely chuckled and responded with, “My sex life.”
Peoples admitted that she didn’t expect that response from her, and the Sister, Sister actress explained why people would be surprised.
“This is what’s crazy,” Mowry-Housley stated. “I remember talking about my sex life on The Rea,l and I remember all the girls would just be like, ‘What?! Huh?! You?!’ I think there is this, I don’t know, stereotype, because I grew up very spiritual, religious, Christian, that you can’t love sex.”
She continued, “And I talk about the importance of it within marriage and all of that.”
Peoples cut in, saying she believed it was because of the girl-next-door roles Mowry-Housley played, like Camryn in Twitches, Tamera Campbell in Sister, Sister, and all of her Hallmark roles.
In 2016, Mowry-Housley surprised her co-hosts on The Real when she revealed she made a sex tape with her husband, Adam Housley. When asked what she would title the video, she responded with “Sweet and Juicy,” causing co-host Loni Love to get up from her chair.
While the sex tape was a one-time thing, the Twitches actress admitted that the experience spiced things up for her marriage.
“I’d rather make my own and have my husband watch me…in the comfort of my own home,” she explained.
She also talked on the podcast about how she learned that, as a “people pleaser,” she needed to set boundaries to protect herself and her career.
