Actress Bresha Webb and television writer Nick Jones Jr. are engaged after being set up by comedienne Loni Love. Jones surprised Webb by popping the question during dinner at a Beverly Hills restaurant.
Jones planned an elaborate proposal and sought help from Webb’s bestie Whitney, who sent him photos of Webb’s dream engagement rings from Pinterest. Good friend Kelly Rowland also helped out by going with Jones to purchase the ring for the special day.
The Yasuke writer planned to propose in Beverly Hills at Wally’s Restaurant so all Webb’s friends could be at the surprise proposal, including Loni Love and Rowland. Several friends caught the beautiful moment on video, and the Acrimony actress later shared the moment on Instagram.
“I’m still in shock and overwhelmed with so much emotion and gratitude,” wrote Webb. “Thank you for all of your texts and messages. Thank you to my village of friends that have become my family. Thank y’all for keeping the biggest secret and giving me the best surprise of a lifetime. Nick, my fiancé, you knew the assignment and you did DAT! I’m still so in awe of you! You made my dream come true @njfuture 💜💍 📸 @michaelschwartzphotographer.”

After meeting Jones and learning that he was looking for the right woman, Love set the duo up. She immediately thought of Webb and contacted her to sell her on Jones. She told ESSENCE Magazine about the fix-up.
“Nick [Jones Jr.] and I were developing a show together,” said Love. “We became good friends so when Nick became single he talked about wanting to find the right woman to marry. Bresha came to mind instantly.”
“I asked Nick about Bresha and he was smitten,” continued Love. “The one question I asked Nick [first] was: Are you serious? Meaning what was he looking for in a relationship. He told me he wanted to marry, so when I hit up Bresha I didn’t say all that I just asked her if she would want to meet him and to check out his IG (I told Nick to add a few more pics of himself looking finnnnee). The rest is their love story!
Love telling Webb about Jones came just one day after her good friend, Megan Good, told the actress to leave finding love up to God. However, Webb almost missed her chance after learning that Jones had a child. Luckily, she took the advice of her father, who told her not to ignore the blessing.
“Loni [Love] told me he had sent me a message, and if I was available, I should say hello,” said Webb. “She sung his praises and directed me to his page. I stalked his IG and thought he was cute and looked familiar but he had a daughter and I just knew that wasn’t what God wanted for me. I spoke to my Dad and he was like ‘go say hi to that man. Every man in their 30s got a kid! You missed that boat. Don’t block yo blessing.”
The duo dated during quarantine over FaceTime at first, but by the time they saw each other face-to-face, they were already in a relationship. Webb had met Jones once before years ago at the Comedy Club with a group of mutual friends. She remembered him as being cute and charming, but she was in a relationship at the time. The couple is planning an old Hollywood-glamour wedding focusing on Black excellence and opulence.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
