During his trial in Chicago, Illinois, on December 6, actor Jussie Smollett called out the white prosecutor for his repeated saying of the n-word.
According to the Daily Mail, while on trial after he was accused of faking a hate crime in 2019, Smollett snapped on special prosecutor Daniel Webb during his questioning and said he did not want to answer strict “yes” or “no” questions.
As evidence, Webb quoted texts that Smollett had sent to Ola Osundairo, one of the persons he claims committed the hate crime against him.
The text messages read aloud contained multiple uses of the n-word.
Smollett then scolded Webb, saying that he shouldn’t keep saying the n-word “out of respect for every African American person in the room.”

Webb apologized, to which Smollet replied snarkily, “Apology accepted, but it’s been used a lot.”
During the trial, the Empire actor said that he initially “assumed’ his attackers were white but that he changed his mind after and said they were “pale.”
“I didn’t want to make the assumption that they were white. So I said let me change that and just say that they were pale-skinned,” Smollett said.
He said it was the “responsible” thing to change his description of the perpetrator since he wasn’t entirely sure, adding: “They could’ve been a white person, they could have been a pale someone else.”
Smollett was then asked if his reason behind assuming they were white was because it would attract more attention. Smollett angrily replied with, “You’d have to ask someone who actually did a fake hate crime.”
He also said that he isn’t sure that brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo were the men caught on surveillance cameras filmed near the area of the attack on January 29, 2019, even after he previously confirmed that it was them.
Smollett maintains that he did think the two attackers were light-skinned but that he couldn’t see them clearly at the time.
He also told the jury that he thinks the brothers staged the attack on him to coax him into thinking he needed bodyguards and hire them to protect him.
