Ashlee Marie Preston, a trans rights activist and organizer behind the recent Netflix employee walkout, has had much to say about comedian Dave Chappelle, and more specifically, his controversial Netflix stand-up special The Closer.
But now, Preston herself is facing backlash after several homophobic and racist tweets have resurfaced, leading some to call the LGBTQ+ activist a hypocrite.
Shared to thousands on Twitter last week, a user compiled several of Preston’s old controversial tweets from 2010 and 2011. Featuring many anti-Asian comments, one of the tweets stated, “Just broke my phone on this Asian b***hes head…I have Asian friends..but they some muthaf***n #weirdo sometimes #isaiditbutweallthinkit,”

Other tweets involved homophobic slurs, with Preston allegedly mentioning a “fagg*t f**ker” and “fagg*t c**k suckers” on her social media feed years prior.
According to TMZ, Preston helped organize an employee walkout at Netflix following backlash at Chappelle’s latest special on the streaming platform, which many have described as transphobic. She reportedly also reached out to the comedian in hopes to have a conversation about his impact on the trans and LGBTQ+ community but claims she was “ghosted.”

Many people are dragging the activist for protesting against Chappelle when she appears to have a past of using homophobic and discriminatory language herself.
One person commented about the resurfaced tweets on Twitter, “The absolute epitome of hypocrisy.”

Another tweeter added, “One takeaway is that we’re all hypocrites in one way or another. Ms. Preston would have been wise to remember that before she climbed on her podium,”

Addressing the controversy on Twitter, Preston admitted to already taking accountability over the harsh tweets, writing, “It’ll take more than tweets from nearly a decade ago, that y’all already weaponized against me two years ago, to stop me from doing the work that’ll free us ALL, today. This is so old, and I’ve already taken accountability for it. There’s no scandal here. See my IG for the full vid.”
