Abbott Elementary William Stanford Davis, who portrays janitor Mr. Johnson, revealed who he would want to play his love interest on the show.
In an interview with Essence at the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, Davis was asked who he would like to play his love interest in the show if he had one.
Davis nervously said he’d want award-winning actress Halle Berry. He was asked to provide a few more names, but he said he was an “old man” and could get arrested if he mentioned any more.
Davis has been on the show since the pilot appeared in December 2021, playing the comedic janitor, Mr. Johnson. When asked how being a part of Abbott Elementary changed his life, Davis said that his time on the show has been “amazing.”
“You see this smile on my face?” Davis asked. “That kind of says it all. This is the icing on the cake. I’ve been out here working, grinding…for almost 35 years…as a working actor for about 25 years. Thank you, God. And nothing has been as amazing, as incredible as this. I’m with the cast, the crew, the stories, the writers. Everything about it has been so phenomenal. I’m having a good time.”
Abbott Elementary includes well-known actors like Quinta Brunson (Janine Teagues), Tyler James Williams (Gregory Eddie), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Barbara Howard) and Lisa Ann Walter (Melissa Shcemmenti).
The show focuses on the lives of teachers working at a predominantly Black school in Philadelphia that’s underfunded and poorly managed while being recorded for a documentary.
On January 10, 2023, the Golden Globes took place, where Abbott Elementary took home three awards, including the best comedy series award.
The show aired on ABC and is in its season. The newest episode, episode 18, will air on television on March 8, 2023.
