N’Jeri Eaton, a Black woman, was hired as Netflix’s director of podcast programming.
According to Black Enterprise, the former Apple and NPR Executive “will be part of the company’s editorial and publishing team.”
Easton announced her new position on Twitter with the caption:
“I’m thrilled to join @netflix as the Head of Podcasts. 16 years ago, I watched three DVDs from Netflix a day while working the late-night lab shift at a university. My obsession for storytelling has taken me all kinds of places, but this is truly a dream!”

According to Bloomberg’s report, “Eaton will manage Netflix’s slate of podcasts, most of which are related to its original TV series and movies.”
Eaton, who started her career in documentary filmmaking, earned an M.A. from UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and held a B.A. in Visual Media Arts Studies from Emerson College located in Boston, Mass. Eaton’s work started in freelance documentary filmmaking in addition to producing and editing.
During her time at public radio network, she worked on shows including No Compromise, which won a Pulitzer Prize, and Believed, which received a Peabody Award.

Eaton’s time at Apple was no less impressive. In several tweets announcing her resignation, she shared her history with Apple.
Eaton started her announcement by tweeting, “Today is my last day on the @ApplePodcasts team. I’ve spent the last year working with incredible colleagues. I had a front-row seat to the launch of Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, which allows creators of all sizes to monetize their content.”

She continued sharing podcasts she helped launch under Apple’s wing and gave a few shoutouts to her colleagues.
