Iconic Good Times actor John Amos, 83, has come out to refute his daughter’s claims that he’s the victim of elder abuse. According to TMZ, his representative told TMZ that Shannon Amos’ GoFundMe page, which asks for financial assistance in order to help the actor get proper care and find those who perpetrated the abuse against him, is entirely false despite John’s honest hospitalization.
Shannon described the incident warranting the fundraiser page as occurring on May 14 when John was hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee. She detailed, “What we found shattered our world: my dad fighting for his life in the ICU. [We] unraveled a horrifying truth — my dad had fallen victim to elder abuse and financial exploitation.” She continued to ensure that her family worked with authorities to “catch and prosecute the alleged perpetrators.”
“Our priority remains my father’s medical needs and providing him a safe haven. His home had been violated, stripped of anything valuable.”
However, John’s representative – Belinda Foster – told TMZ, “The details laid out by his daughter Shannon Amos are a lie…no one is abusing him, and he hasn’t been fighting for his life. He says he’s got no idea as to why Shannon may have started the GoFundMe.”
The GoFundMe, titled “Care & Support for John Amos “America’s Dad,” has a goal of $500,000 but has only gotten around $13,000 in donations.
Foster clarified that John was in the hospital for an entirely different reason than what was listed in the GoFundMe. She explained he was in the hospital “because his lower body was filling with fluid, all the way to his abdomen, and causing issues with his heart.” However, after draining the fluid, “John’s recently started to feel one hundred percent.”
