As part of a reality TV show publicity stunt, Trick Daddy is showing off his new teeth on social media after reportedly not seeing a dentist in about 15 years, a procedure he paid for in lieu of a new season of Love and Hip Hop Miami and wearing grills for 30 years.
The procedure cost him $60,000, and the final treatment will be done in about two months.
The severity of his much needed dental work was such that he had to undergo bone loss surgery and currently has temporary fillings in place while his gums heal. He’ll have his bottom teeth removed next week.
Trick Daddy, whose real name is Maurice Samuel Young, is, of course, a Florida rapper who has helped shape the state’s presence in hip-hop culture – the foul-mouthed, raw and unfiltered, gold-grill-wearing attitude of Florida rap and much of Southern rap in general.
What is new about him is that his teeth are in order.

After years of having a grill replace his real teeth and not seeing a dentist, it appears that Trick Daddy’s natural teeth have begun to decay.
Jewelry grills are decorative dental appliances that do not directly cause tooth decay, but rather increase the risk of developing dental problems if proper oral hygiene is not maintained.
The grills can trap food particles and bacteria between the appliance and the teeth, which can lead to plaque buildup, tooth decay, and gum disease over time. In addition, the grills can cause irritation to the gums and surrounding tissues, leading to inflammation and possible damage to the supporting structures of the teeth.
Trick Daddy’s old teeth suggest one of two things, maybe both: either he was not cleaning his grills regularly and/or he was not practicing good oral hygiene habits – brushing and flossing around the grill, removing it when eating or drinking, and visiting the dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings – to reduce the risk of dental problems.
According to a report from TMZ, he has been wearing the same gold grills since 1994 and has lost nearly all of his teeth to decay.
Both on the show and outside media, Trick Daddy has publicly spoken about his health issues, including his battle with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation throughout the body. In an interview in 2020, Trick Daddy revealed that he was diagnosed with lupus over a decade ago and has been struggling with the disease ever since.
In addition to lupus, Trick Daddy has also been open about his struggles with other health issues, including Type 2 diabetes, which he was diagnosed with in 2009. He has also spoken about his struggles with weight gain and high blood pressure.
Despite his health challenges, Trick Daddy has continued to work in the music industry and has remained active in his community. He has used his platform to raise awareness about lupus and other health issues affecting the Black community.
