Michigan police are asking the public for help finding three Michigan rappers who went missing after their Jan. 21 performance at a Detroit club was canceled.
According to the Detroit Free Press, family and friends of 28-year-old Armani Kelly of Oscoda, 31-year-old Dante Wicker of Melvindale and 31-year-old Montoya Givens of Detroit claim that Saturday, Jan. 21—the day of their performance—was the last time they heard from them.
Police said it was “alarming” that all three went missing.
“The fact that the three of them are missing together is very concerning and very alarming for us,” Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis said.
All three weren’t reported missing at the same time. Kelly (performance name Marley Whoop) was reported missing first once his mother realized he hadn’t contacted her. Kelly was using his mother’s car, prompting her to use OnStar to trace the car’s location. Police discovered it in Warren. Unfortunately, Kelly wasn’t anywhere to be found.
After hearing the news of Kelly’s disappearance, the families of Givens and Wicker followed suit with missing person reports once they realized they hadn’t heard from them either.
All three performers were last seen at Lounge 31, located at 14404 Gratiot Ave. Police say they’re looking at everything, including cellphone activity, which all activity stopped on Jan. 22. WXYZ Channel 7 reported that one of Kelly’s last texts was to his fiancé informing her that the show was canceled.
The families are yearning for their missing relatives to return home safely. Kelly’s mom, Lorrie Kemp, has taken action by posting flyers around Lansing, the town her son grew up in. She said she was doing everything, claiming there wasn’t a sense of urgency from police when she reported her son missing until the other rappers were reported missing.
“I am doing everything I possibly can, and I am out there hitting the roads, hitting the pavement.” Kemp said. “Were is the police department? They didn’t do their job.”
Kemp added, “I don’t want to be on Dateline in 20 years to find his body.”
