Taye Diggs is taking it back to his 1998 film How Stella Got Her Groove Back (co-starring Angela Bassett) for his inspiration for his latest hosting gig on a Hulu dating show, Back in the Groove. The four-night premiere will kick off on Dec. 5 and end on Dec. 8, with Hulu unleashing two episodes daily.
Hulu released the official trailer to the public on Nov. 22, giving a snippet of how hot the male contestants are. The show takes place at The Groove hotel in the Dominican Republic and follows three women in their 40s looking for love among 24 men who are half their age.
“As the saying goes, ‘You can’t fall in love with someone else until you fall in love with yourself!’ At the Groove Hotel, these three women will have the opportunity to do both! Whether they find the perfect fling, friendship, true love, or something in between, this is their chance to take charge and break through the double standards older women face every day,” the trailer’s description read. “And they’re going to have a lot of fun doing it! The show is hosted by Taye Diggs, who knows a thing or two about getting into the groove.”
The women are 43-year-old Sparkle from Atlanta, 41-year-old Steph from Miami and 42-year-old Brooke from Los Angeles. Each woman will not only find whatever they’re looking for among the young gentlemen, but they will also rediscover their youth and live life happily.
According to Diggs, all the men “are excited to date older women,” adding “age is just a number.”
The 31-year-old actor is also an executive producer for the series, producing alongside showrunner Elan Gale, Bill Dixon, Sonya Wilkes, Evan Wilkes, Michael Krupat, John Luscombe and Shannon Stoeke. Back in the Groove is the streaming service’s first impromptu original produced under the newly created Walt Disney Television Alternative.
Besides hosting the show, Diggs will be reprising his role as Harper for the newest installment of The Best Man series, The Best Man: Final Chapters.
