P-Valley star J. Alphonse Nicholson recently married longtime girlfriend, Nafeesha in a star-studded Los Angeles wedding.
According to Essence, J. Alphonse and Nafeesha tied the knot during an intimate ceremony at the Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. Attendees of the star-studded Oct. 7 wedding reportedly included The Chi‘s Miriam A. Hyman, Kindred‘s Sheria Irving, actor Jerry O’Connell and actress Rebecca Romijn.
The couple initially met in 2016, long before J. Alphonse rose to fame. At the time, he was a budding actor in Oakland and traveled across the U.S. to beat drums for money in NYC train stations. While some would’ve questioned his ambitions, Nafeesha believed in him.
“She told me, and I believe her, that if that never changed, she would be with me to this day,” the P-Valley star said about his longtime beau at the wedding reception.
J. Alphonse popped the question in 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic’s arrival delayed wedding plans. As such, he and Nafeesha had a long-distance relationship while he performed on Broadway. The following year, in 2020, they purchased their first shared space in Los Angeles; the rest was history.
“We just hung out and had a great time and just fell more and more in love with each other,” the 37-year-old told Essence. “We spent some quality time with our children, and towards the end of the pandemic, I told her, I said, ‘Listen, I’m not trying to wait. We got to have this wedding, but I’m not trying to wait to have it. So can we just go down to this little spot, get married, go ahead and get my ring on my finger?’ She already had one. I wanted one on mine. So we made that happen and started to think about a date for the actual wedding.”
Their lavish reception reportedly included a beautiful emerald-green wedding cake and a cannabis bar.
“I don’t smoke, but because it means so much to him, it means so much to me, too,” Nafeesha said.
