Actress Dawnn Lewis from the 90s sitcom It’s A Different World turned 61 on Aug. 13 and looks magnificent. She also holds her honorary doctorate humane letter from Next Dimension University, which she received in 2019 because she was active in serving underprivileged communities.
Last week, she made a birthday post on Instagram thanking everyone for celebrating her birthday month.
“Thank you to my amazing family & friends that blessed me and celebrated my birthday month with me,” the post read. “I’m eternally grateful for all the love and well wishes I’ve gotten and continue to receive! My actual birth date was the 13th but shout me out anytime between Aug. 1 thru the 31st; it’s all groovy. Lol 🥰 So excited that I jammed on the drums for my first full song during my bday bbq!! Love you @leiflewis @lennyunderwood!!”

For years, Lewis has been involved in the entertainment industry and giving back to the community for over 40 years. The actress, philanthropist, and domestic abuse survivor founded and is the CEO of A New Day Foundation, which aims to provide financial and programmatic support to underprivileged communities.
Lewis has been recognized with multiple awards from the Grammy, NAACP, ASCAP, and BMI. Lewis was also involved in the music industry. She owns her record label, Morning Jewel Music, and released her only CD, Worth Waiting For in 2006. The Race To Freedom actress had her music played in films and television soundtracks. Not only did she appear in A Different World, the spin-off of The Cosby Show, as Jaleesa, but she co-composed the theme song for the spin-off. Lewis appeared in other shows like season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy, The Bucket List, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper and Star Trek: Lower Decks.
