Henderson was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi, on July 7, 1951, and raised in Detroit. He gained traction from being incredibly talented with the bass, getting attention from Stevie Wonder– continuing to tour with him. Henderson was well known for his bass playing on memorable albums, but his most famous claim to fame was with his vocals on “You Are My Starship,” according to Billboard.
He claimed he started playing bass guitar because of the Motown star James Jamerson in the Take Me I’m Yours: Michael Henderson[…] Anthology.
His family requests donations for a memorial in lieu of flowers.
