Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks owner Derrick Hayes continues to honor his father’s legacy through his successful food business in Atlanta. And now, the entrepreneur and his wife, Pinky Cole, are celebrating the newest addition to their family with the birth of their newborn son.
On Wednesday, Hayes took to Facebook and announced that his son was born on the anniversary of his late father’s death.
“This is such a full-circle moment. My father died July 6, 2009, and I dedicated my business to him, the proud father said in the post.
He added, “My son was born today, July 6, 2022, and I’m dedicating my life to him. Welcome to the world, son, I got my big Dave in heaven, and now I got my Lil Dave here on earth.”
Cole, the owner of Slutty Vegan ATL, also shared a post on her Instagram account announcing the birth of the couple’s son.
“It’s been one hell of a week. Welcome to the world, Derrick Hayes Jr. 7.6.2022 🥰,” she captioned the post.

The heartwarming news comes a week after Hayes proposed to Cole at the 2022 Essence Festival held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans last weekend, Sis2Sis reported.
Hayes and his now-fiancée Cole were panelists at the event when he surprisingly made an emotional speech, thanking the 34-year-old for supporting him throughout the years.
In the one-minute clip, Hayes was standing in front of Cole, stating that he wanted to make things official and slipped the engagement ring on her finger.
Moments later, Cole started crying as the pair embraced during the joyous occasion. However, audience members were waiting for her to finalize the engagement with an answer.
“Of course I do, f**k yeah I do!” Cole said with laughter.
She shared the video on Instagram, writing, “Because I was tired of calling you my partner 🤣 One of the best days of my life ❤️💍😊@officialdhayes.”
