When you see a Black woman happy and living her life unapologetically, why do people automatically assume she’s pregnant? Recently, Issa Rae shut down pregnancy rumors the best way she knew how — in a crafty yet, hilarious tweet.
On Wednesday, the Insecure star and creator took to Twitter, addressing the pregnancy rumors from a video circulating on social media.
“I am not pregnant, f**kyouverymuch.” She added, “LET A BITCH EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY.”

The video was taken last Friday in Washington, D.C., where the 37-year-old hosted a festival at the Kennedy Center to honor Black creatives.
In the 14-second clip, Rae appeared happy as she greeted friend and costar Yvonne Orji. The two embraced for a few seconds before the camera captured the Los Angeles native dancing to the music with a drink in her hand.

Another user shared her personal story after someone she knew assumed she was pregnant. “I was suffering for several years from severe depression after an unwanted abortion. An Acquaintance asked me when I was due. I said, ‘I’m not pregnant.’ She looked at me, ‘you can tell me how far along are you? ‘It was extremely painful to bite off. I’m not pregnant.”

“Preach, Issa! It’s sad that, as women, we have to constantly answer questions and deal with assumptions regarding pregnancy. Normalize minding your own damn business and let people be happy with their life choices!” a third user said.
