Singer R. Kelly will sit for a videotaped deposition in a lawsuit alleging he broke up a Mississippi sheriff’s marriage. Mississippi sheriff Kenny Bryant sued the disgraced singer who claims R. Kelly ruined his life and marriage when he began having an affair with the sheriff’s wife.
According to court documents, Bryant will question the singer under oath as part of his lawsuit. He has been pursuing the case for three years.
Bryant initially filed the lawsuit in 2017, but his suit had to get in line behind other legal actions as Kelly faced multiple charges for federal racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, bribery and sex trafficking involving five victims. In September 2021, the self-proclaimed “Pied Piper” was found guilty on 12 counts and is awaiting sentencing in 2022. He faces the possibility of life in prison. Kelly faces another federal trial on charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice in Illinois.
In his legal docs, Bryant claims he was aware that his former wife, Asia Childress, had a relationship with Kelly before their marriage but was told it was over. Bryant and Childress tied the knot in 2012, and the couple lived in marital bliss until the singer returned.
Bryant claims Kelly and Childress engaged in an intimate extramarital affair in October 2012. He accuses the singer of carrying out an extramarital affair with his wife for five years. He even says Kelly gave his wife chlamydia. The singer has denied being involved with Childress. The sheriff revealed Childress reportedly suggested they move to Georgia. Bryant was left in financial ruin when he could not find a job. Every time the singer had a concert nearby, he claimed that Childress hurried off to be with the disgraced entertainer. The trysts ultimately caused their marriage to fall apart.
Bryant said he suffered emotional, psychological and financial loss due to the affair, so he sued Kelly, seeking damages for ruining his marriage and “depriving him of his spouse.”
The suit is seeking unspecified damages for emotional and psychological pain. Kelly has filed court documents denying that he had a sexual relationship with Childress.
