Torrei Hart has addressed comments about her keeping her ex-husband, Kevin Hart’s, surname, although their marriage has ended.
Speaking to Too Fab News, Torrei was very succinct about why she chose to keep using her former spouse’s last name.
“‘Cause it’s mine, first of all,” she said. “Second of all, ’cause Kevin never asked for it back — he don’t [sic] want [me] to give it back, he’s not trippin’.”
Torrei also expressed another important reason that she continues to keep the Hart name: her children.
She said her children do not want her to change her name, and as their mother, she is obliging.
Torrei was married to Hart in 2003, and the two filed for divorce in 2010. The divorce was finalized in 2011. They have two children—their daughter Heaven, 16, and son Hendrix, who recently turned 14.
Although their divorce was mired in scandal, the two have managed to get to a good place and be good co-parents to their children.
Addressing the claims that she continues to use her ex-husband’s name to help her acting career, she asserted that she did not believe that her name gives her an advantage.
“I do the work. I hustle every single day. So I can have the Hart name all day, but if I’m sitting on my ass and not working, you think people are gonna give me opportunity? I get opportunity because I get out there; I network, I’ve been training, I put in the word — Like ‘Yo, this project looks like it could fit me.’ Like, I hustle,” Torrei said.
Hart pledged to buy Torrei a Tesla because he still uses her in his wildly popular stand-up comedy routines, but his ex-wife has a better suggestion.
“So I’m still part of your life — plug my stuff!” she said. “America: tell him I said plug my stuff. Y’all go spam his page and tell him: ‘Plug Torrei’s stuff.'”
Torrei’s upcoming project Super Turnt is a sequel to the original Super Turnt released in 2020.
