English pop 90s duo Right Said Fred embarrassed themselves by calling Beyoncé “arrogant” for not allegedly requesting their permission to interpolate their ’90s track “I’m Too Sexy” into her song “ALIEN SUPERSTAR” on her chart-topping album “Renaissance.”
“Normally, the artist approaches us, but Beyoncé didn’t because she is such an arrogant person. She just had probably thought ‘come and get me,’ so we heard about it after the fact when you did,” Right Said Fred told The Sun. “But everyone else, Drake and Taylor Swift, they came to us.”
One thing to note is that Right Said Fred members’ names are Richard Peter John Fairbrass and Fred Fairbrass.
Instead of keeping quiet like she had when other artists like “Milkshake” singer Kelis came at her with bogus crediting allegations, Queen B defended herself in a statement to E! News on Oct. 7. She had receipts to back her statement that Right Said Fred’s claims were “erroneous and incredibly disparaging.”
The “Break My Soul” singer affirmed that the duo’s publisher gave authorization.
“Permission was not only granted for its use, but they publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album,” Beyoncé said. “For their song, there was no sound recording use; only the composition was utilized. Permission was asked of their publisher on May 11, 2022, and the publisher approved the use on June 15, 2022. They were paid for the usage in August 2022.”
She also said they were also given “co-writer credit.”
On Spotify, after right-clicking and selecting the “show credits” option, the writers Richard Peter John Fairbrass and former member Robert Francis Anthony Manzoli were credited as the writers of “I’m Too Sexy.”
The duo tried to appear as though they were taking the high road since Beyoncé has more status than they do.
“To use our melody, they need our permission, so they send us the demo, and we approve it and if so, we get a co-write credit,” the duo stated. “With this Beyoncé thing, there are 22 writers. It’s ridiculous, so we would get about 40 [pounds].”
They continued, “We can’t stop it. There is nothing we can do. It is s**t. You are going to get into a conversation with someone who has a lot more presence and power, and money than we do. And that won’t go well. It’s best to let it go. If you’re not careful, you spend your life looking back. We keep looking forward the whole time.”
