Rapper E-40 has been recognized by his home city of Vallejo. On Saturday, October 21, the rap legend was given a proclamation to have both a day and a street named after him right after being given a key to the city.

Vallejo mayor Robert McConnell memorialized the Bay Area rapper. October 21, 2023, was named “E-40 Day.” Additionally, McConnell renamed the street that E-40 grew up on, Magazine Street, to “E-40 Way.” In a ceremony conducted right outside his childhood home, a nearly one-mile stretch of Magazine Street, between Laurel and Old Glen Cove Road, was renamed. The city placed the street sign right across the street from E-40’s home. 

The 55-year-old “Choices” rapper took to Instagram to commemorate the moment. He wrote, “Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to have my childhood street in Vallejo named after me! Don’t ever give up on your dreams! Thank you to the @CityofVallejo.” He also included a short clip of unveiling his new street sign. 

Present at the ceremony were members of The Click, some of his fellow music producers, Mistah F.A.B and his close family and friends. According to the Vallejo Sun, E-40 is “only the second recipient in Vallejo, California’s 173-year history to receive a key to the city.”He was gifted the key because of his extensive “contributions as a musician, entrepreneur and philanthropist.”

During the celebration, Mayor McConnell recognized the 30th anniversary of E-40’s iconic debut album, titled Federal, which featured hits such as “Rat Heads,” “Let Him Have It,” and “Get Em’ Up.”

Earl Stevens, better known by his rap name E-40, recalled being born in Vallejo, and he’s honored to join fellow Bay Area rap legends like Tupac and Too $hort as Bay Area royalty.
