21 Years On Top: Ice-T Celebrates Longest-Running Male TV Role

Legendary West Coast rapper and longtime actor Ice-T made a special announcement this week.

On Tuesday, Tracy Lauren Marrow, who goes by the stage name “Ice-T,” announced his new accolade on social media.

Longest-running male actor in TV History. Don’t tell me what CAN’T be done,” he wrote.

The 64-year-old started his career with Law & Order: SVU in 2001, where he portrayed Sergeant Odafin Tutuola. Initially set to play a few episodes, Ice-T became an immediate hit and a staple character in the show. He has since appeared in 456 episodes throughout his 21-year run.

Before his Law & Order: SVU role, Ice-T scored a minor screen role in 1980s Breakin’ before landing a lead role in 1991’s New Jack City.

Law & Order: SVU also recently broke a record as the longest-running live-action primetime TV series.

Ice-T isn’t just focused on his acting, though. He is an emcee at heart. He recently opened a recording studio with Naughty By Nature’s Treach in New Jersey. In an interview with HipHopDX, he opened

up about the studio and new projects in the works.

“It was a studio that we used in New Jersey that we were able to obtain through the owner,” he said. “It’s under new management, and we remodeled it. The picture is of us putting up plaques in there. It was a good opportunity, and Treach and I use the studio anyway. We’re going to have an opening soon.”

Ice-T continued, “I was just in the studio with Kool Keith last week. I’m working on his Black Elvis album. I did two songs on that. I just worked on Bishop Lamont’s album. I’m on that. As far as actually doing an album myself, I just have to get in the right space and right vibe. It’s a project. And I’ve been doing a lot of singles, just dropping them digitally.”

Congratulations, Ice-T. We’ll be tuned in for new music.
